Recommendations have and make history. Letters of recommendation have a huge influence on the lives of the people being recommended and are therefore subject to the influences of their historical environments. Through the lens of Jewish history, this volume examines the significance of letters of recommendation for historical actors in various situations, thereby drawing attention to the importance of this specific genre of everyday literature.
