Taking the corpus of Greek tragedies as base, the author develops a new philosophical theory of tragic experience which focuses on the suffering individuals. Asmus Trautsch explores both the ethical and aesthetic potential of tragedy for the current times, and deciphers the tragedy as an astonishingly accurate model for man's now globally effective self-endangerment.
