New Frontiers on Freedom of Expression

The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) is the leading international body representing the interests of library and information services and their users. It is the global voice of the information profession.

The series IFLA Publications deals with many of the means through which libraries, information centres, and information professionals worldwide can formulate their goals, exert their influence as a group, protect their interests, and find solutions to global problems.

As global threats to freedom of expression evolve through traditional censorship and new digital frontiers, libraries remain the essential guardians of intellectual freedom and diversity. This volume provides a comprehensive look at these challenges, ranging from book bans and legislative hurdles to algorithmic surveillance, offering both historical context and proactive strategies for resistance. By examining diverse international case studies, it highlights the vital professional ethics and solidarity required to safeguard democratic values and ensure an informed, open society for all.
