With the exception of Joachim von Sandrart, the members of the "Fruchtbringende Gesellschaft" (FG) from the Old Empire dealt with in this volume have remained largely unknown. The bio-bibliographic material amassed in the present volume is designed to help characterize their writing and delineate their intellectual profile, and also to outline their specific contribution to the overall influence exerted by the FG. With their "Ehren-Preiß" in praise of the "Fruchtbringende Gesellschaft", reproduced here with explanatory notes, Sigmund von Birken and Martin Limburger penned a panegyric extolling in sumptuous prose the virtues of the FG on the eve of its demise.
