Nicolaus Cusanus (14011464) places the focus of this manuscript on the figure of a layman who as the antithesis to the university-trained philosopher represents the simple, uneducated man and therefore the true wisdom consistent with the mind and potentials of man. Cusanus's fundamental anthropological, epistemological, and metaphysical definitions are embodied and unified in the figure of the layman.
