In Europe, the eighteenth century was the century of the Enlightenment, which reshaped Christianity with its critique of the traditional authorities. This is also reflected in the various art forms. At the same time, the arts underwent their own transformation, evolving into domains of a single art that, when acknowledged as an independent entity, became the subject of a new discipline aesthetics.
