This volume compares recent hermeneutic criticism with new perspectives on the art of understanding. It does not just reveal the potential of hermeneutic reflection for critical analysis of the present, but also considers how we could systematically and methodologically expand upon hermeneutics in order to reveal the long neglected material, performative, and institutional interests involved in the practice of understanding.
