In between is the title of Christian Gmeiner's artistic contribution to the Austrian pavilion at the first edition of maltabiennale.art 2024. The basic theme of his work presentation is man in his condition humaine. In a variety of ways, he reflects on geographical, historical, mythological, societal and current existential challenges.
The title In between signals the moment of the transitory in terms of geography, time and society; Malta is seen as the intersection of these tangents. Despite the idiosyncratic nature of the spaces, the artist succeeds emphatically convincingly in interweaving, unfolding and making tangible a wide variety of narratives with his minimalist installations in a symbolizing form. Die erste Ausgabe von maltabiennnale.art 2024 zielt darauf ab, das Mittelmeer aus einer insularen Perspektive zu betrachten; Vom Meer umgeben zu sein, verändert den Blickwinkel und die Reaktion drastisch. Durch das insulare Denken wird deutlich, dass der Mittelmeerraum zwei Ufer hat er ist sowohl Südeuropa als auch Nordafrika, ein Zusammentreffen von Orient und Okzident, ein Zusammenfluss von Ost und West. Weit davon entfernt, etwas Reines zu sein, ist die Insel immer ein Prinzip der Komposition und Erfindung. Eine Insel ist der ideale Ort, um Beziehungen zu knüpfen: Man geht weg, man kommt an. Es lädt dazu ein, das umliegende Meer zu durchqueren, andere Länder zu berühren.

The first edition of maltabiennnale.art 2024 aims to examine the Mediterranean from an insular perspective; being surrounded by sea drastically alters one's vantage point and response. Through insular thinking, it becomes evident that the Mediterranean basin has two shoresit is both Southern Europe and Northern Africa, a meeting of Orient and Occident, a confluence of East and West. Far from being something pure, the island is always a principle of composition and invention. An island is the ideal location for the forging of relationships: one departs, one arrives. It beckons one to traverse the surrounding sea, to touch other lands.

Der 1960 in Wien geborene Christian Gmeiner ist ein vielseitiges Talent und vielseitiger Sucher und Macher in vielen Bereichen. Sein vielfältiges Werk besteht aus Grafiken, Bildern in verschiedenen Techniken, Skulpturen, aber auch Arbeiten mit Emailtechnik und sogar Fresken. Der Künstler beschäftigt sich mit klassischen Genres wie Porträts, Aktbildern oder Landschaften. Er lebt und arbeitet in Krems, Österreich, arbeitet als Künstler und lehrt an der Universität für angewandte Kunst in Wien. Er stellt in internationalen Galerien aus, wird weltweit zu Symposien eingeladen und hält auch Workshops an internationalen Kunstuniversitäten. Darüber hinaus hat der Künstler eine Reihe von zeitgemäßen Denkmälern errichtet.
