Mauduyt's "Vocabulaire" is the oldest manuscript glossary of Poitevin speech of comparable scope and a rich source of linguistic, cultural and ethnographic information on the Poitiers region in the early 19th century. The present edition aims at a full appreciation of its originality and interest. After an introduction on Poietvin patois in the early 19th century each article of the "Vocabulaire" is provided with a historical and etymological commentary.
