Beschreibung

This first monograph surveys eight years of work by Swiss artist Tobias Spichtig, bringing together paintings, sculptures, and installation photography from exhibitions in Zurich, Berlin, New York, and Taipei. Spichtig is known for combining painting with discarded everyday objectsrefrigerators, mattresses, vitrinescreating environments that disrupt and reframe the viewer's encounter with the work. His canvases move between pop-cultural references and intimate subject matter, marked by a distinctive blend of melancholy and wit. The book opens with a foreword by Benoit Lamy de la Chapelle and an introductory essay by Simon Castets and Daniel Merritt, and features further contributions by additional writers alongside an in-depth conversation with the artist. Together, these texts position Spichtig's practice within wider debates on consumption, decay, and hope, making this volume the definitive visual and critical record of one of his generation's most significant painters. Ed.: Florian Schöneich. Text: Elena Filipovic, Elisa R. Linn, Benoît Lamy de La Chapelle, Laura McLean-Ferris, Alexander Scrimgeour, Tobias Spichtig.
