He is also Chairman of Indian Philosophical Congress and Asian Congress of Philosophy. He retired as Professor and Head, Department of Philosophy, University of Delhi, Delhi. He is internationally known as an authority on ancient Indian culture, Buddhism, Jainism and Vedanta.
