This comprehensive guide dives deep into the science behind platelet rich plasma (PRP), its preparation, and its diverse applications in treating various conditions across different animal species. Regenerative medicine is a rapidly growing field in veterinary medicine, offering new possibilities for treating conditions that were previously difficult or impossible to manage. PRP is a readily available therapy with a wide range of applications.
The present work covers orthopaedics, wound healing, equine and small animal medicine, and more. It also discusses the synergistic effects of combining PRP with other regenerative medicine strategies, such as stem cell therapy and biomaterials, and concludes with regulatory considerations and future directions.
This book provides veterinary practitioners, researchers, and industry professionals with the knowledge needed to effectively utilise PRP in clinical practice and research, ultimately improving animal health and welfare. It serves as a valuable resource for those seeking to understand and implement this promising therapeutic modality, including veterinary universities as well as veterinary pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies developing PRP-based therapies.
Explores the science, preparation methods, and clinical applications of platelet-rich plasma Provides real-world case studies and expert insights Facilitates accurate decision-making in both clinical and research settings

Khan Sharun, MVSc, PhD, is a veterinarian and Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellow in the Regenerative Medicine Group, Department of Health Science and Technology, Aalborg University, Denmark. He earned his veterinary degree from Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University and completed his MVSc and PhD at the ICAR Indian Veterinary Research Institute, focusing on bone and skin regeneration using stromal vascular fraction, mesenchymal stem cells, and platelet-rich plasma. He later pursued postdoctoral training at the Stupp Laboratory, Northwestern University, USA. His research centers on tissue engineering and regenerative medicine strategies for skin, bone, nerve, and cartilage repair, aiming to translate experimental discoveries into clinical applications. He is a recipient of the TERMIS Young Investigator and SYIS Career Development Awards (2024).
Shajahan Amitha Banu, MVSc, PhD, is a veterinarian and researcher specializing in regenerative medicine and tissue engineering. She earned her PhD from the ICAR Indian Veterinary Research Institute, focusing on innovative therapies for tissue regeneration. She is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Regenerative Medicine Group, Department of Health Science and Technology, Aalborg University, Denmark, where her work bridges fundamental science and clinical translation to advance regenerative strategies for animal and human health. Her achievements include the SERB-ITS Grant and selection to the São Paulo School of Advanced Science in Stem Cell Biology (FAPESP/UNIFESP). She also serves as Communications Officer (Elect) of TERMIS Asia-Pacific SYIS, supporting scientific communication and collaboration among early-career researchers.
