Dr. Peter Igaz ist ordentlicher Professor für Innere Medizin und Endokrinologie. Derzeit ist er Leiter der Abteilung für Endokrinologie an der Abteilung für Innere Medizin und Onkologie der Semmelweis-Universität. Zwischen Juli 2016 und Mai 2020 war er Direktor der 2. Abteilung für Innere Medizin der Semmelweis-Universität, die unter seiner Leitung 2019 mit dem Titel „Center of Excellence" der European Neuroendocrine Tumor Society ausgezeichnet wurde. Er ist Co-Leiter dieses ENETS-Exzellenzzentrums. Im Jahr 2020 wurde seine Forschungsgruppe vom European Network for the Study of Adrenal Tumors (ENSAT) mit dem Titel Research Centre of Excellence ausgezeichnet. Er hat Fachexamen in Innere Medizin, Endokrinologie und klinischer Genetik. Neben seinem medizinischen Abschluss (MD) verfügt Dr. Igaz über Abschlüsse in Biologie (MSc, Molekularbiologie) und Jura (JD). Er erhielt 1999 den Ph.D. und 2013 den Doctor of Sciences (DSc) der Ungarischen Akademie der Wissenschaften. Sein Forschungsschwerpunkt umfasst die Erforschung von microRNAs, Bioinformatik, Nebennierentumoren und hereditären endokrinen Neoplasie-Syndromen.
