Wind in tall trees. White sky. Rain soon. Hooves on earth. Twigs. Snap. Wait. Listen. A new experiment in performance from Katie Mitchell, Nina Segal and Melanie Wilson. Using only sound and no words, a quartet of performers and Foley artists evoke the lives of two animals - a cow and a deer. Cow Deer is an invitation to enter the more-than-human world. Co-created by Katie Mitchell ( Bluets, Anatomy of a Suicide ), Nina Segal ( Shooting Hedda Gabler, Big Guns ) and Melanie Wilson ( Oracle Song, Opera for the Unknown Woman ). This edition was published to coincide with the National Theatre of Greece and Royal Court Theatre co-production in September 2025.

Katie Mitchell OBE is a British theatre director. Her work has been produced at the National Theatre, The Royal Court, The Young Vic, Royal Shakespeare Company and Royal Opera House, as well as throughout Europe.Nina Segal is a playwright and screenwriter. She was the recipient of the 2022 Playwright's Scheme Award and was shortlisted for the 2020 George Devine Award. Her first play In the Night Time (Before the Sun Rises) opened at the Gate Theatre to critical acclaim and subsequently had productions across Europe. In 2023, Nina's translation of The Good Person of Szechwan was performed at the Lyric Hammersmith and her original play Shooting Hedda Gabler opened at the Rose Theatre, both of which received excellent reviews. In 2024, she was under commission to Dutch National Opera and the RSC. On screen, she has written for The Crown and Hanna. Her short film Capture for the Financial Times has been acclaimed for giving an insight into the issue of online harm to young people and has run alongside debate around the online safety bill.Melanie Wilson is a London-based performer, writer and sound artist. Her most recent performance Iris Brunette, toured nationally and internationally in 2009-11, receiving Best Production award at Dublin Fringe 2009. Melanie's other work includes every minute,always (Edinburgh Fringe 2010), The View From Here (One on OneFestival 2010), Simple Girl (UK and international tour, EdinburghFestival, Dublin Fringe). Melanie is co-founder of Patter TheatreCompany (2002-06), with whom she co-devised, performed anddesigned sound for A Playful Meditation on Magic and The Experts (BAC, Edinburgh Fringe).
