DISC Interiors: Portraits of Home

Zusatztext "Dramatic storylines are the lifeblood of Los Angeles. But not every storyteller in the city relies on theatrics and fantasy to capture an audience. For the past decade, Krista Schrock and David John Dick, the friends, founders and principal designers behind the lauded firm DISC Interiors, have won the hearts and minds of creative clients and the design world at large by doing just the opposite...This spring, to commemorate 10 years since the launch of their firm, they are sharing the story of their own evolution in a debut tome, DISC Interiors: Portraits of Home (Rizzoli New York, $65). It's the tale of a slow burn there are celebrity clients (it is Hollywood, after all), but no big breaks; instead, their success came from steady growth via word of mouth and a purity of vision." C: CALIFORNIA STYLE MAGAZINE "Named one of L.A.'s top 20 interior design firms in 2019 by THR , DISC draws inspirations from the sun-drenched landscape of California, gravitating toward colors and textures inspired by the natural world." THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER "Krista Schrock and David John Dick, founders of DISC Interiors, masterfully combine traditional inspiration with contemporary elegance." LOVEHAPPENSMAG.COM "Some interior designers create spaces that instantly reflect the designer's hand. Others, like Krista Schrock and David John Dick, the founders of DISC Interiors, located in Los Angeles, create warm modern spaces with a distinctly California aesthetic that at once feel comfortable, lived in, and immediately place one at ease as if at home. The first monograph of their work provides 200 color images of rooms, details, and vignettes to be inspired by and aspire to. DISC creates spaces using natural materials, tonal color palettes, and bespoke work from the finest artisans and craftspeople, that look comfortable and effortless." DALLAS STYLE & DESIGN "Krista Schrock and David John Dick, founders of DISC Interiors, have penned their first book to mark their 10-year anniversary. The firm is known for using natural materials that develop a patina, tonal color palettes and artisanal pieces that imbue their projects with a soothing quietude. As Dick explains in the opening chapter, he and Schrock strive to create spaces for meaningful relationships to develop, rooms for conversations with family, places to linger, kitchens that really are meant to be cooked in, family rooms that have game tables and cozy chairs and soft lighting at night to read in. The book is a celebration of their signature style with a look at 10 projects across Los Angeles, from Rustic Canyon to Silver Lake." LUXE MAGAZINE "About 90 percent of my travel over the last year has been the armchair variety, in the form of diving deep into the Instagram accounts of my favorite vacation rental sites and interior designers...One of my very favorite accounts is that of Disc Interiors and the company's co-founders David John Dick and Krista Schrock. Their first book, Portraits of Home ($60, Rizzoli) is out April 6th, and available for pre-order now. Spoiler alert: I co-wrote the book with them, and in the process, I took a series of mini day-cations when I visited the sophisticated and serene houses they designed in Los Angeles that are featured in the book. Buy a copy and keep it on your coffee table for browsing, when a 15-minute holiday is better than no holiday at all. Krista Schrock and David John Dick, founders of DISC Interiors, masterfully combine traditional inspiration with contemporary elegance.

Headed by principals Krista Schrock and David John Dick, DISC Interiors is an interior and furniture design firm based in Silver Lake, Los Angeles. DISC Interiors strives to create homes of calibrated simplicity that balance the push and pull of modern life, address a sense of place and persons rather than any particular period or style, and balance the traditional with the modern and aesthetics with function. DISC Interiors favors earthy color palettes that transition like seasons, and organic textures that patina gently like metals that burnish with touch, leathers that soften, and floorboards that reveal more of a home's soul with every year. The homes they design are filled with vintage furniture and rugs juxtaposed against custom upholstery to feel contemporary yet classic and familiar.

The projects designed by DISC Interiors represent a one-of-a-kind combination of traditional details and contemporary chic, and Portraits of Home is inspiring for all those seeking both contemporary and traditional solutions to twenty-first-century living.
