Too often, scholars treat transnationalism as a conflict in which the local, regional, and national give way to globalized identity. As these varied studies of German cities show, though, the urban environment is actually a site of trans-localism that is not merely oppositional, but that adapts itself dialectically to the forces of globalization.

Transnationalism and the German City is an important interdisciplinary contribution to the fields of transnational history, urban studies, German history, and German studies. this interdisciplinary volume represents an important intervention in German and transnational studies, raising questions about the relationship between transnational and local influences in the context of the German city and laying foundations for future scholarship.
