An intimate dialogue about finding poetry and meaning in everyday places.

In this latest installment of Aperture's best-selling Workshop series, Irina Rozovsky and Mark Steinmetz--partners in life and teachers of photography--share insights into a "call and response" approach to image-making through chance-driven encounters. Rozovsky uses her camera to craft emotionally charged, atmospheric portraits of the people and places she has encountered from Brooklyn to the Balkans, finding beauty through openness and intuition. Known for his precise and sensuous black-and-white photographs made in cities across the US and Europe, Steinmetz creates an improvisational, often-cinematic vision of public spaces, emphasizing spontaneity in his perception of landscapes, street scenes, and domestic life. Together, the husband-and-wife duo show how photography is a strange maze of labor and love that always yields a possibility of euphoria.
