Green and digital transformation as well as the adjustment of global supply chains as a result of geopolitical risks have led to a renaissance of industrial and location policies. In this context, subsidies take centre stage as a key instrument of government control. The new global subsidy race is emphasising national and international subsidy regulations. National legal frameworks, including foreign trade law, as well as bilateral and multilateral agreements, which increasingly include specific provisions on subsidies or state aid, characterise legal practice. Moreover, despite the need for reform, WTO subsidy law remains an authoritative multilateral regulatory framework. However, as further development of WTO law continues to stagnate, other instruments have recently become more important. The new Handbook on "International Subsidies" addresses the enormous practical importance of the topic. It explains the core provisions of the various regulations, systematises the findings for practical interpretation and thus makes the heterogeneous legal framework in the field of international state aid, subsidy and foreign trade law comprehensible and manageable. Main topics In particular, the following issues are analysed: National legislation on state aid and subsidies of important industrialized countries Regional integration areas: AfCFTA, ASEAN, EU, EEA, Mercosur, RCEP, USMCA EU Foreign Subsidies regulation, including the implementing regulation EU basic anti-subsidy regulation WTO subsidy law Intersection of state aid and investment protection law Subsidy law approaches and chapters in free trade agreements Highest expertise The authors, who have been familiar with the subject matter for a long time and are both academics and legal practitioners, present the various legal frameworks of subsidy and state aid legislation in a practice-orientated manner. This makes it possible to deal confidently with the respective international and national regimes as well as the legal acts of the European Union.
