This book presents various contemporary topics in applied mathematics education and addresses both interested undergraduate instructors and STEM education researchers. The diverse set of topics of this edited volume range from analyzing the demographics of the United States mathematics community, discussing the teaching of calculus using modern tools, engaging students to use applied mathematics to learn about and solve problems of global significance, developing a general education course for humanities and social sciences students that features applications of mathematics, and describing local mathematical modeling competitions and their use in providing authentic experiences for students in applying mathematics to real world situations. The authors represent diversity along multiple dimensions of difference: race, gender, institutional affiliation, and professional experience.

This volume leverages previous publications such as GAIMME Report (published by SIAM & COMAP in 2018) and Mathematics Sciences in 2025 (published by National Research Council in 2013) This is one of the few volumes devoted to applied mathematics education (i.e., mathematics education in the context of applied mathematics) This volume presents a diverse perspectives on applied mathematics education

Autorentext
Ron Buckmire is Professor of Mathematics at Occidental College in Los Angeles. He holds Bachelor's, Master's and Doctorate degrees in Mathematics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He served for over four years as a Program Director in the Division of Undergraduate Education at the U.S. National Science Foundation. He has published peer-reviewed work in a wide variety of research areas such as numerical analysis, mathematical modelling, machine learning, and mathematics education.

Jessica** M. Libertini** received her Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Brown University. She has held faculty positions at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, University of Rhode Island, and Virginia Military Institute. In addition to her academic positions, she spent nearly a decade as an engineer and analyst with General Dynamics, and she served as a Science & Technology Policy Fellow in the Office of the Secretary of Defense. Her current work is largely in interdisciplinary education and curricular development
