This book offers a number of different ways of understanding the meaning of Quantum Mechanics (QM). QM triggers our wonder about the quantum world and when philosophizing about it, three questions come up: 1) What is the relation between theory and reality? 2) What kinds of things are there in the world described by QM? 3) What can we know about nature at the quantum level? QM makes enormously precise predictions, which so far have proved correct in all tests. Yet, there are deep and multifaceted disagreements about its interpretation. This shows that there is a conflict between our everyday worldview and some fundamental features of quantum theory. This book helps philosophers of science debate what kinds of things there must be, if quantum theory is correct, and how we obtain knowledge about them.

Lars-Göran Johansson - I received a B.Sc. in mathematics and physics from Gothenburg University 1973. After receiving a teaching diploma 1974 I taught mathematics and physics at secondary schools until 1995. During that time I studied philosophy and received a Ph.D. in theoretical philosophy from Stockholm University 1993, after which I was lecturer in theoretical philosophy, first at Stockholm University, then from 1995 at Linköping University and finally at Uppsala University, where I was full professor from 2008. From 2018 I am emeritus professor. I have published some 40 papers and eight books in epistemology,ontology, philosophy of general science and philosophy of physics.

Jan Faye , Dr.phil., born 25.02.1947, is Emeritus Professor at the Department of Communication, University of Copenhagen. Studied philosophy and physics at the University of Copenhagen 1970-1978; mag.art. in philosophy (1975) and dr.phil, (1981). Over the years, I have been working with various topics within Philosophy of Science, Metaphysics, Epistemology, and Philosophy of Mind. In philosophy of science, I have dedicated my research to philosophy of space and time, quantum mechanics, causality, explanation, interpretation, reductionism and emergentism as well the methodological differences and similarities between the natural sciences, the social sciences, and the human sciences. I have published 18 books and edited another 14 books as published around 130 papers.
