Interiors stylist and author Hilary Robertson reveals how to use materials, textures, and finishes to stunning effect in the contemporary home.

Materials are the foundation of every great interiors scheme, and each brings its own unique qualities: the tactile warmth of brick, the natural grain of timber, or the gleam of polished metal. However, with so many to choose from, finding the right materials for your home can be overwhelming. In Materialist, renowned stylist Hilary Robertson first considers the beauty of Stone, Wood, Concrete, Plaster, Ceramic, Fabric, and Tile – their distinctive traits, the variety of finishes available, and how they can transform your home. Hilary then steps inside 15 remarkable interiors, all defined by the creative and expressive use of materials. Emerald-green zellige tiles add bohemian flair to a Moroccan riad. In London, an interior designer has blended the original architecture of her Victorian villa with Brutalist raw oak and concrete surfaces. And a writer’s eco-friendly retreat in New York’s Hudson Valley uses plywood, cork, corrugated metal, and even straw in its innovative construction. Filled with amazing original photography, Materialist is an inspiring guide to the building blocks of home.
