Herbert Clyde Lewis (19091950) wurde als Sohn einer russisch-jüdischen Einwandererfamilie in New York geboren. Er arbeitete als Journalist, Schriftsteller und Drehbuchautor. Gentleman Overboard war sein Debütroman.
