This book reviews the important academic research achievements in the field of political science in China since 2012. It is divided into two parts: the general discussion and the specific topics. In the general discussion section, this work mainly introduces the basic status, major achievements, and notable characteristics of the academic development of political science in the new era. It assesses the key areas of focus and development trends for further advancement of political science research in China.

Professor Wang Puqu, born in 1956, is from Yancheng, Jiangsu Province, China. He is currently a First-Class Professor of Chinese Philosophy and Social Sciences, Boya Chair Professor at Peking University, and a doctoral supervisor at the School of Government Peking University. He serves as the Dean of the Institute of National Governance Studies at Peking University (Director of the Key Research Base of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education). He is also the convener and chair of the Political Science Discipline Evaluation Group of the Academic Degrees Committee Office of the State Council and the convener and chair of the Political Science Discipline Evaluation Group of the National Social Science Foundation. He is the director of the Teaching Guidance Committee for Political Science in Higher Education Institutions nationwide and the convener of the Political Science branch of the Social Sciences Committee of the Ministry of Education. Professor Wang Puqu has been awarded the "Special Allowance Expert of the State Council" and titled as the "Leading Talent of the First Batch of Philosophical and Social Science in the National Thousand Talents Program" and "Chang Jiang Scholar Distinguished Professor" by the Ministry of Education. He has also received awards such as the Outstanding Contribution Award in Management Studies of Fudan University and the National Advanced Individual Award for Textbook Construction.
His main research areas are political theory and methodology, as well as contemporary Chinese politics and governance. He has written and edited 16 textbooks and academic works, including Foundations of Political Science and Modernization of National Governance. He is the chief editor of the Contemporary Chinese Governance Series, the Series of Classical Textbooks of Western Political Science and the series of National Governance Research. He has translated and authored 11 academic works, including System Analysis of Political Life, Analysis of Political Structures, and Oxford Handbook of Political Behavior.
Professor Wang Puqu has published over 130 papers in both Chinese and international top peer-reviewed journals, including Social Sciences in China, Journal of Peking University (Philosophy and Social Sciences), Political Science Research, Chinese Public Administration Review, Research Policy, and Asian Politics and Policy. As the principal investigator, he has led three major projects funded by the National Social Science Foundation and over 10 projects funded by the National Thousand Talents Program for Philosophical and Social Science Leading Talents and the major projects of key research bases in the humanities and social sciences supported by the Ministry of Education. He has also participated in three international cooperative research projects involving China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, and Russia.
