A Guide to Critical Interculturality Research and Writing

This book offers a radical rethinking of intercultural research and writing for those tired of seeing familiar concepts such as 'identity negotiation' and 'power dynamics' endlessly recycled. The path from a raw dataset to an original research publication is often misunderstood, and A Guide to Critical Interculturality Research and Writing provides a fresh and practical philosophy for navigating that journey. Born from a real international PhD seminar, it moves beyond theory to show readers how to anchor their work in a strong conceptual core, prioritise deep preparation over premature writing, and identify the distinctive 'puzzle' within their data. Drawing on more than 25 years of supervising international PhD students, the book addresses contemporary academic challenges, including the ethical use of AI as a polishing tool without compromising intellectual voice. It encourages readers to move beyond applying clichéd labels and instead develop problem-oriented questions that make a genuine scholarly contribution. An essential guide for advanced students, doctoral researchers, and early-career scholars in intercultural communication and education, this book supports the production of work that is critically engaged, ethically sound, and unmistakably their own.
