Klappentext

This book, a revised and updated English translation of the influential Tracce in movimento, explores how archaeological approaches to the present can reveal invisible narratives of migration in Lampedusa.

Archaeological tools and methods are used in new and innovative ways to understand contemporary migration through archaeological perspectives. The book delivers this through detailed field research that transforms ordinary objects into evidence and territories into testimonies. By documenting traces along coasts, walls, public demonstrations, and cemeteries, it follows the changing meanings of materials that are removed, reused, abandoned, transformed or preserved. In doing so, it offers a powerful counter-narrative to challenge preconceived ideas about migration and provides a framework for collective memory restitution in critical contexts, demonstrating how archaeological methods can make visible relationships between landscapes, communities, institutions and the silenced memories of migrant people across the Mediterranean.

This book is intended for archaeologists, anthropologists, migration researchers, and social scientists interested in contemporary archaeology and critical heritage studies
