These eight lectures have been written up in a clear and pedagogical style in order to serve as an introduction for students to fields of modern astrophysical and astronomical research where otherwise textbooks are not available. Autorentext Pierre Léna is emeritus professor of physics and astrophysics at the university of Paris Diderot-Paris 7 and researcher at the Observatoire de Paris.François Mignard is a director of research of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientific (CNRS) at the Observatoire de la Côte d Azur. He specialises in astrometry and has played a major role in the future European space mission GAIA.
