With time you will realize that you need to know more about other people for effective counseling.While interacting with others we get bombarded with lot of information.We come to know how others look,what are their personality traits, what they are saying and doing and why.However,this leads to information load.It is not possible for a normal human brain to absorb such a vast amount of information.So we pay attention to and absorb into our memory only those parts of information which are useful for us.In a new situation,we recall this previously stored information about them and make judgments about them,predict their future behaviour and draw inferences about their behaviour.This process helps us to understand the complex social world in counseling.Though use of mental shortcuts helps us in saving cognitive efforts required to understand the social world around us in counseling yet they can be source of potential errors which may lead us to make faulty judgements.Human beings are unique beings and for effective counselling we need to know their social psychology.Counseling is incomplete without the knowlewdge of social psycholog.The book is good to university and colleges.
