This workbook draws together over 100 of the most frequently used and treasured exercises from playwrights across the world, and critically engages with the methodologies behind them. With each contributor selecting the exercises most central to their writing and teaching, The Global Playwriting Workbook offers up a curated catalogue of useful exercises for the aspiring playwright. Rather than presenting a single 'correct' way of writing plays, the many voices and approaches captured in this book open up many avenues for writers, encouraging them to explore their full potential. The book also posits the need of a transcultural lens while writing and studying playwriting, beyond a Westernizing perspective. The exercises are ordered by theme, making the workbook easy to navigate. With contributions from playwrights in North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia, this is the most international book on playwriting available and brings the traditions of drama in all these countries together for the student playwright.
