Klappentext

A clear and accessible volume spanning the entire theory course, Harmony and Voice Leading, Sixth Edition, begins with coverage of basic concepts of theory and harmony and moves into coverage of advanced dissonance and chromaticism. It emphasizes the linear aspects of music as much as the harmonic and introduces large-scale progressions-linear and harmonic-at an early stage. The first textbook to incorporate elements of Schenkerian theory into the core of music theory teaching, this book remains the most serious introduction to the subject for students, while offering a clarity of logic and organization that guides students smoothly through complex concepts and connects theory to musicality.

In this Sixth Edition:

• A revised, streamlined structure offers a more concise edition of this classic text which can work flexibly in courses of all lengths
• Additional readings on fundamentals and advanced topics are now provided as online resources, keeping the full breadth of the book's coverage available
• The accompanying workbook, provided as an online resource, creates a complete course package, available at no additional cost Combining clarity with depth while enabling students to grasp the relationship between theory and artistry in the tonal tradition, Harmony and Voice Leading is the essential guide to music theory and harmony.
