Volume 7 of the Collected Works of Roman Ingarden bears the title "On the Foundations of Epistemology" and consists of two part-volumes. The first of these contains Part 1 of Ingarden's "On the Foundations of Epistemology" ( U podstaw teorii poznania ) in the editor's German translation of the text prepared for print by Ingarden shortly before his death and published in Polish in 1971. The second part-volume assembles a number of related texts from the author's Nachlaß . In sum the works brought together in these two part-volumes document Ingarden's unremitting endeavour to realize his own design for an autonomous system of epistemology taking its bearings from Husserl's phenomenology and setting itself apart from naturalist ('psycho-physiological') theories of knowledge.
