The authors describe the diagnosis, differential diagnosis, establishment of indications and successful treatment of chronic pain conditions that are not caused by tumours. The aim is to motivate psychotherapists to become involved in pain therapy and provide them with the skills they need to do this. The book is also a guide to the 'Psychosomatic Pain Therapy' curriculum established by the German Association for Psychosomatic Medicine and Medical Psychotherapy (DGPM) in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Association for Psychosomatic Pain Therapy (IGPS).

Prof. Dr. Ulrich T. Egle ist Facharzt für Psychosomatische Medizin und Psychotherapie, Spezielle Schmerztherapie und nach Emeritierung als Senior Consultant für Psychosomatik und Schmerz an der Psychiatrischen Klinik Sanatorium Kilchberg in Zürich tätig. Dr. med. Burkhard Zentgraf ist Facharzt für Psychiatrie, Facharzt für Neurologie und Psychotherapeut. Er ist Chefarzt der Psychosomatischen Celenus-Fachklinik Kinzigtal in Gengenbach/Südbaden und leitet dort die Schmerzabteilung.

Zusammenfassung
Die Autoren vermitteln in diesem Band das erforderliche Wissen fur Diagnostik, Differentialdiagnose, Indikationsstellung und eine erfolgreiche Therapie bei nicht tumorbedingten chronischen Schmerzerkrankungen. Im Mittelpunkt steht dabei ein bio-psycho-soziales Schmerzverstandnis. Ein besonderer Schwerpunkt liegt auf stressbedingten Schmerzerkrankungen. Das Buch mochte arztliche und psychologische Psychotherapeuten fur ein Engagement in der schmerztherapeutischen Versorgung motivieren und ihnen die dafur notige Kompetenz an die Hand geben.
