One notable feature of the epoch of Middle High German is that, in the research and teaching in this field, the transmission history, textual philology, historical linguistics and literary history are intrinsically linked. In over 30 essays dedicated to Kurt Gärtner on his 75th birthday, older and younger colleagues in the field as a whole examine his many years of work in this area. The spectrum of themes of the contributions reflects the jubiliarian's diversity of interests and also provides a comprehensive insight into current research activities.
