Johannes Bisselius: Deliciae Veris Frühlingsfreuden

In 1638, the Jesuit, poet, preacher, and historian from Upper Swabia, Johannes Bisselius (16011682) published the first volume of his seasonal poem Deliciae Veris. These Pleasures of Spring are a subtly composed, stylistically unique cycle inspired by multiple motivations. The poem cycle is presented here for the first time in a modern edition with a German translation and insightful commentary, including an introduction to each poem.
