In recent years, the judgments of the Court of Justice of the European Union have been driving important developments in the field of European fundamental rights and freedoms. It is against this backdrop that this textbook has been restructured and updated to reflect the current legal situation, taking into account the growing significance of the protection of fundamental rights by the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union.
