Eberhard Kolb's standard work presents three phases of the history of the Weimar Republic and provides a detailed introduction to the research debates on domestic and foreign policy and the development of society and the economy.

The 9th edition inlcudes the text published together with Dirk Schumann in 2013, complemented by a chapter on culture, now expanded by a supplementary report on the research literature published since the last edition.
