This commentary outlines the reforms to foundation law contained in the new §§ 80-88 of the German Civil Code, which take effect in summer 2023. It systematically discusses new regulations regarding the name, seat, and assets of a foundation, and amendments to foundation charters; to the consolidation and merger of foundations; and to the new central register of foundations; and assesses the legislative background in detail.
