This volume contains the first three historical dramas in the "Lancaster Tetralogy," focusing on character studies of three English kings and their respective antagonists. The tragedy of political events is combined with low comedy, which, in Wieland, goes against the tastes that prevailed in Germany at the time to unfold the aesthetic potential of strangeness.
