The role philanthropy plays in mobilising private capital for charitable purposes is becoming increasingly important. The contributions in this edited volume deal with foundations in Germany, France, Switzerland, China, the United States, and the European Union. Special attention is paid to new measures aimed at promoting individual home countries as well as the EU as attractive bases for such organisations. The comparative picture that emerges reveals past developments and future potential in the trust law of these important jurisdictions.
