Aus der Vergangenheit der Niederlausitz; From the Past of Lower Lusatia

The following includes some lectures that the author has held in local history societies over recent years, now offered in an expanded form to a wider audience. Additionally, essays six through ten have been added. The lecture on Lusatia during the Era of East German Colonization, originally published as a special pamphlet in 1923 by Gebr. Grubann, Senftenberg N.-L., has been revised and substantially expanded. Since the compilation Lusatia in the Hussite Wars was only available as a private print in 1922 and was still in demand, it is also reprinted here under a changed title with some additions. The informed reader will easily see that these essays and lectures are not just compilations and processing of previously printed material. Works 6 to 9 are largely built on archival material. Furthermore, I refer to the source references provided in the appendix. Generally, providing specific evidence and notes was not the purpose of this publication. May this book, whose diverse content is unified by the desire to make the homeland's past more vivid, find receptive readers! May it inspire further research.

1949 wurde Rudolf Lehmann Archivleiter in Lübben. Er betrieb den Ausbau des alten Niederlausitzer Ständearchivs zu einem Landesarchiv. Wegen Publikationstätigkeit in Westdeutschland wurde er 1958 im Alter von 67 Jahren genötigt, seinen Beruf aufzugeben, und die gesamten historischen Bestände des von ihm aufgebauten Lübbener Landesarchiv wurden ans Brandenburgische Landeshauptarchiv Potsdam überführt. Nach dem Mauerbau 1961 wurden wissenschaftliche Kontakte über die innerdeutsche Grenze immer schwerer, und als 1962 auch die Archivbibliothek nach Potsdam verbracht wurde, war an eine Weiterarbeit in Lübben nicht mehr zu denken. Er fasste den Entschluss, die DDR zu verlassen, und siedelte 1964 nach Marburg über. Dort konnte er dank der Förderung des Historikers Walter Schlesinger noch mehrere große Projekte fertigstellen und zur Veröffentlichung bringen. Sein Nachlass wurde in der Forschungsstelle für Geschichtliche Landeskunde Mitteldeutschlands in Marburg aufbewahrt und später an das Brandenburgische Landeshauptarchiv in Potsdam abgegeben
