The German Federal Law on Metering Point Operation, which came into force on 2 September 2016, has wide-ranging implications. Between 2017 and 2032, all electrical power meters will have to be converted to comply with the provisions of the Law on Metering Point Operation. This commentary describes the new features of the law and the provisions governing the installation of intelligent metering systems and modern measuring devices.
