The relationship between literature and music, whether in song, opera, or in a formal perspective, is intermedial. The study of this (often adaptive) relationship demands interdisciplinary competency and the subject of specific methods that this book describes and reflects upon in examples from the 18 th century to the present day. Along with classical methods of hermeneutics, it presents the methods of empirical aesthetics.
