The commentary is a companion to Volume 1 of the new edition of the »Hessische Passionsspielgruppe«. While that edition of the text itself did pioneering work in documenting for the first time text consistency and variation in the aftermath of various re-stagings, the Commentary is the first comprehensive study of the »Frankfurter Spiele«. Thanks to a newly devised, comprehensive commentary design, the volume can legitimately claim to provide an all but exhaustive treatment of the »Frankfurter Spiele«.
