The book draws on the example of illustrative case studies to examine conceptions of pagan and the cultural semantics and textual patterns it conveys. Refusing to be limited to familiar or binary categories (radical rejection/tolerance), it considers the concrete changes, intersections, and inter-relationships that transcend such criteria or cast them in a new light.
