Nearly 15 years after the formal recognition of indigenous peoples and their rights, this study uses the example of Yucatec Maya to examine Mexico's complex multilingual tradition. Offering a speaker-centric perspective on the vitality of Maya, this comprehensive study paints a differentiated picture of the current situation of the language. It thus promises to be a valuable aid to future speaker-oriented revitalization projects.
