The development of 3C-SiC interlayers for diamond deposition on cemented carbide cutting tools

Cemented carbides are important substrates for cutting tools. They require a protective diamond coating to avoid a rapid tool wear. Cobalt diffuses from substrates and catalyzes non-diamond phases. SiC is introduced between diamond and substrates as a barrier layer to suppress Co diffusion. The thesis presents the results of the SiC layer optimization and stability, phase transformation of SiC to cobalt silicides at diamond deposition conditions.
Hartmetalle sind wichtige Substrate für Schneidwerkzeuge. Sie erfordern eine Schutzdiamantbeschichtung, um eine schnelle Werkzeugabnutzung zu vermeiden. Kobalt diffundiert vom Substrat in die Diamantschicht. Eine SiC-Zwischenschicht ist eingeführt soll die Co-Diffusion unterdrücken. Die Arbeit präsentiert die Ergebnisse der SiC-Schicht-Optimierung und Stabilität, sowie der Phasenumwandlung von SiC zu Kobalt-Silizid bei der Diamantabscheidung.
