Kant's theory of freedom reveals a tension between two different forms of the will, namely between autonomy, which combines free will and rational insight, and caprice, which consists in a freedom from normative determination. Dirk Setton's study examines how these opposed elements of freedom nonetheless go hand in hand with one another.
