The study examines Heinrich von Mügeln's first Spruchbuch for the reception it accords to specialist cosmological/astronomical knowledge and the functionalization of that knowledge in literary discourse. The particularity of the Spruchbuch is illustrated against the background of contemporary Meistersang discourse. The first part of the book establishes typical ways of functionalizing learned material and provides a commentary on selected Meisterlieder that is designed to illustrate these findings. On this basis, the second part of the book highlights Heinrich von Mügeln's first Spruchbuch as an outstanding and pioneering achievement.
