Notker's two-language reworking of the »Consolatio Philosophiae« dialogue from late Antiquity was written around 1000. His innovative approach combines commentary and translation and moves between Latin and Old High German to achieve a comprehensive and profound appreciation and interpretation of the text. The study defines the significance of Notker's version in the early-medieval reception of the »Consolatio« and discusses its epistemological premises, its didactic aims, the underlying concept of interpretatio Christiana , and the linguistic and technical methods employed in its realization.
