In the Age of Revolution, European conservatives confronted an ongoing challenge: How could they fulfill their dreams for a nation state without destabilizing existing power relations? The study investigates the transformation of conservative political discourse during the 19th century, which culminated in the implementation of the nation-state ideal in Germany and Italy.
