Volume 2 of the Kempowski Yearbook is devoted to the novel Schöne Aussicht (1981). From the viewpoint of family Kempowski, the everyday is portrayed between social coldness and the politically heated atmosphere of the interwar period. The novel illuminates different social milieus and characters and characterises the, often weakened, family ties. They reflect the inner distance of the middle classes to the great ideologies of the time.
